The table is part of the story

Sample journal entry — created for this website preview.

Some meals are remembered for a particular flavor. Others stay with us because of the people around the table. This sample journal entry is an invitation to give a little attention to both.

Begin with what you have

Everyday bowls, a favorite tray and a small arrangement of greenery are enough. There is no need for a matching set. The table can reflect the way you live and the people who share it.

Leave space for the meal

A centerpiece should not compete with the food or make conversation difficult. Keep the middle of the table open for serving dishes and place utensils where they are easy to find.

An inviting table makes room for people first.

Create a small ritual

Perhaps everyone chooses a garnish for the table, or you take a moment to ask about the best part of the day. A simple shared habit can give an ordinary dinner a sense of occasion.

Let it be imperfect

A meal does not need to be photographed to be meaningful. Serve the food, pull up a chair and enjoy the conversation that follows.
